RCEME in the Battle of Normandy

The Normandy story is the latest in a series highlighting the experiences and achievements of the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). In the summer of 1944, the newly formed Corps was put to its first test. As Canadian armour and infantry advanced through the hedgerows of Normandy, RCEME tradesmen worked under fire—converting tracked vehicles into armoured personnel carriers, recovering tanks stuck or broken on the battlefield, and repairing equipment at the front. Their skill and determination proved that RCEME was not just a support service, but a vital force on the battlefield.
